{"id":45,"date":"2010-12-02T12:48:00","date_gmt":"2010-12-02T12:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kanglu.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/02\/35129247"},"modified":"2010-12-02T12:48:00","modified_gmt":"2010-12-02T12:48:00","slug":"35129247","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lufamily.ca\/kang\/2010\/12\/02\/35129247\/","title":{"rendered":"iPhone Exchange 2007 Email Sync Issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family:Lucida Grande, verdana, arial, sans-serif;border-collapse:collapse;color:#222222;line-height:18px\">Last night I had trouble getting email from my iPhone. \u00a0It kept on reporting that it couldn&rsquo;t communicate to the server. \u00a0I thought it was a server issue, so I left it overnight, but this morning it was exhibiting same symptoms. \u00a0We use Exchange 2007. \u00a0I proceeded with a few sanity checks.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#222222;font-family:Lucida Grande, verdana, arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"border-collapse:collapse;line-height:18px\">The email on my desktop function normally.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#222222;font-family:Lucida Grande, verdana, arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"border-collapse:collapse;line-height:18px\">The email via Outlook Web function normally.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With the above two checked, I knew that I was using the correct server and my login credentials were correct.<\/p>\n<p>I&rsquo;m using iOS 4.2.1 on an iPhone 4, so I started to Google for some answers, and came across this post.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/discussions.apple.com\/thread.jspa?threadID=2656735&amp;start=4\">http:\/\/discussions.apple.com\/thread.jspa?threadID=2656735&amp;start=4<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After backing up my iPhone, I fully reset the phone and erase all contents and data on it. \u00a0I then register the phone with iTunes as a brand new phone. \u00a0Before I sync anything to it, I checked my Exchange connectivity, and everything was back! I follow this step with a restore from the previous backup, and the Exchange account did not work again. \u00a0Therefore, I repeated the fully reset, but this time I skip the restore and setup everything manually again.<\/p>\n<p>Note that just a full reset and restore will not work. \u00a0Neither does deleting the account and reset the account. \u00a0I also tried changing my account&rsquo;s password, and that also had no effect. \u00a0Another symptom to be aware of is that while trying to setup the Exchange account again, the phone was unable to verify the account. From all of this, I concluded that the registration as a new phone was a critical and necessary step. \u00a0I don&rsquo;t know what the root cause was, but it sure was a pain. \u00a0It literally started to happen.
