Track and Field

This week our school had this year’s Track and Field week. Usually, our school would have Track and Field in just one or two days if some students didn’t do an event. For some reason though, our teachers decided to make the day into different days. Since I only participated in the Grade 6 boys events, I will only be writing about those events because I don’t know too much to write about any other ones.

On Monday, we did the 800m race. Normally, the teachers would split us up into heats of six, but since the race was so long they put us in one race. The winner of the race was one of my friends Aheev and I came in second, but since Aheev beat me last year I wasn’t surprised. We didn’t do any other events that day, but on Tuesday we did Shot put where we threw a metal ball in a certain way. I was surprised that I got first since I’m not very strong in the first place and I’m not very good at throwing things.

Wednesday was supposed to be one of the days we did the most events, but just like the past two days we only did one event which was the 200m race. It was also very hot that day compared to the past two days. This time, they split us into heats and although I got first in my heat I’m pretty sure I got second or third. Instead of Aheev winning though, another one of my friends Marcus won. That’s because Aheev hurt is foot while playing soccer on Tuesday.

The final day of Track and Field for us was Thursday where we did Running Long Jump, Standing Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100m, and 400m. For all of the jumping events, I did pretty well getting second for Running Long and Triple Jump. I got first for Standing Long Jump though, so I was happy about that. For the rest of the running events, I think I did alright although I only got sixth for the 100m since I usually do better. At the beginning of the 100m, I started getting a cramp since I drank a lot of water before the race and also my legs hurt from the past few days of running. For the 400m I’m not sure who got won since there were different heats and also nobody saw the times. I think I did okay though.

Overall I didn’t really like how they split up the different events on different days because the next day my legs would be sore and I have to run. Also, this year wasn’t too fun since some of the younger kids thought it would be funny to put sand, rocks, and other items into our water bottles. I was lucky enough to not get anything put into mine. Some people also started pouring water on each other but I made sure I didn’t get involved. This track and field was okay, but I would prefer next time that they don’t split the event into too many different days.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands

Recently I have been looking at some newer games specifically third person games. The reason for this is because I see my brother Jason playing a lot of third person shooter games that look like fun.

I have been looking at some games and I found a slightly new game that came out a few months ago. The game is Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. I have another Tom Clancy game which is Rainbow Six Siege, but that game is a first person game. Ghost Recon is an open world shooter game with a lot of different objectives that you can complete. You can do many different things and I have heard that there is always something to do in the game so it doesn’t get boring.

I have seen some videos of people playing the game and the graphics look very nice. Although the game looks good, I hear that even if you have a very good PC it still might be hard to good frames per second. The game has a single player and co-op four player mode, but I think I’ll probably play mostly single player since I don’t have any friends that play it. Ghost Recon also has AI bots that you play with if you’re playing single player. This way, the game doesn’t become too difficult if you’re playing alone.

I will get the game and see if I like it. If I don’t then I will probably refund the game and get some other games. Also, I will get to see if I like third person games, so if I don’t like it I will remember that I don’t like those types of games when looking for new ones.

My Usual Breakfast

This week I’m going to blog about my usual breakfast since I have the same breakfast almost every day and I have nothing else to blog about.

Breakfast for me is pretty easy since I do it a lot. Normally I have two eggs, a slice of toast and sometimes some meatballs. First, I take out a small skillet, put it on the stove, put some oil on, and then turn on the heat to warm it up. Then, I take the toast from our toast box and put it in the toaster. After that, I take some meatballs from the freezer and place them on a plate then put them in the microwave for around a minute.

I then go back to the skillet and crack the eggs in. Most of the time I crack both in at once so that they’re connected. I wait for a few minutes and then flip them. A few moments after I flip the eggs the toast is usually done. I leave the eggs to cook some more and take the meatballs and plate out of the microwave. Then, I take the toast from the toaster and remove the eggs from the skillet.

After that, I put away the skillet and turn off the heat. Then, I just season the eggs with some pepper, get a fork, sit down and eat.

School Junior Music Concert

Yesterday at my school, we had a Junior music concert where the grade 4’s, 5’s, and 6’s had to chosen a song a few weeks prior to the performance date and performed for the school and some parents. At the concert, there were different groups of students so there were multiple songs to be played.

My group had a few of my friends and we were originally going to play the song, “I Feel Good” by James Brown, but then some of my group members said it was too hard. A few days later we decided to play the song, “Sounds of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel. I played the guitar with another one of my groupmates and someone else was supposed to play the piano, but they said it was too hard. So we ended up getting three weeks to practice and one person only got one week to practice with their instrument.

I think we did alright although we could’ve done better. If it were up to me it would be better if we had people playing all different instruments instead of just two guitar players and the rest playing the ukelele.

Auntie Laura’s Wedding

Last Easter weekend my family and I went to Montreal for my Auntie’s wedding. We started to drive to Montreal on the Good Friday morning and got to the place we were staying at around noon. The day after we arrived we went to the wedding.

When we went to the wedding there was a room where you could get drinks from and lounge around until it was time for dinner. When it was time for dinner the meals were kind of messed up since some people got different dishes and some people got their meals after others. The first part of dinner was alright and then mommy told us that we had to go to the photo booth in the corner to get pictures taken. After the pictures, I came back to where I was sitting and the chair that I was using was gone. Since I didn’t know who had the chair I was using, I didn’t know who to ask for the chair back. Eventually, I got a different chair and also my main course which was supposed to come ten minutes earlier. Although that happened, it was made up for because of the dessert. There was a large dessert table with a lot of different things like cookies, tiny mousse cakes, and even some McDonalds.

Overall the experience was okay, but I would most likely go to another one since it is a family trip and we usually travel as a family together. That would mean I would also have to come.

Rust (The Game)

Rust is a video game created by Facepunch studios in 2013. The version of Rust in 2013 looked kind of different than today. You can probably find some images on Google by searching, “Rust Legacy”. I got the game in February 2015 and it stayed like this until for a few months later when the game changed again to what is now today where they are still adding updates.

Rust is a survival game inspired by games like Minecraft and DayZ. The environment in Rust is not great. Bears and wolves will chase and kill you since as of now they are a bit better than they used to be. Before the bears and wolves were able to climb through rocks and your building foundations. They could also come out of nowhere like ninjas. Therefore bears were sometimes referred to as, “Ninja Bears”.  Falling from a height will also kill you even falling into the water. Being exposed to radiation for an extended period will kill you. Starving will kill you. Being cold will kill you. Other players can find you, kill you, and take your stuff. Luckily, you can kill other players and take their stuff. You can probably see the point now. However, you can team up with friends and work together to survive. Although if you’re working with someone you don’t know they could backstab you, take over your base, and all of your things.

Currently, I’m not playing too much Rust since the current system doesn’t work as every update (every Thursday) all servers get force wiped. A force wipe is when all data from the server is erased like buildings, resources, and the map layout sometimes. To craft things, there are also components which can only be found in barrels and crates that generate randomly. If the servers wipe every week then only the really dedicated plays that play 3-5 hours a day will be able to get all the good items and dominate the server.

Rust is still in active development so the game is not ready yet for a full release as they are still updating the game to make it better. Facepunch is currently working on a new AI system for the bears, wolves, deer, boars, and other animals, so that they are more, “Realistic” instead of Ninja Bears.

CS:GO (Counter Strike: Global Offensive)

I don’t really know what to blog about so I will be doing my blog today on CS:GO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) which is a game I play a lot.

CS:GO is a competitive FPS (First Person Shooter), Team, Objective, and Skilled based game. The game takes lots of practice to get good at which is why I like the game. The game usually never gets boring because there are always ways to improve your skill in the game. CS:GO is the latest installment in the Counter-Strike franchise which has many variations, CS:S (Counter Strike Source), CS 1.6, CS:CZ (Counter Strike Condition Zero), and etc.

In the game, there are two teams. The CT’s (Counter-Terrorist) and the T’s  (Terrorists). The CT’s objective is to defend the two bomb sites on one of the maps. A map is basically the area in which a game is played. The T’s objective is to plant a bomb at one of the sites and then wait for the bomb to explode. If the bomb is planted, the CT’s can retake the site and defuse the bomb. Alternatively, a team can kill all the enemy plays to win the round. The teams can buy different weapons and utilities like flashbangs that blind enemies and smoke grenades that can cover an area with a thick layer of smoke that enemies cannot see through.

There are a few game modes in CS:GO, but these two are the most popular. Competitive is the most popular mode. In this mode, you queue into a lobby of 10 people, 5 players on each team. You play until one team gets 16 round wins or the teams tie at 15-15 rounds. When 15 rounds have been played there is a half-time where the teams switch sides. This way each team should get a chance to play as both teams. You play the match using standard competitive Counter-Strike rules on one of the classic maps like de_dust2, de_mirage, de_inferno, and etc. You can join a match on your own also known as solo queue, or form a team. The next game mode is Casual. People usually play casual when they want to play Counter Strike, but don’t want to commit to a full match or has a competitive ban/cooldown. In Casual mode, players automatically receive body armor and defusal kits and gain bonus rewards for kills.

I have played more than 600 hours of the game and a few of my friends also play it. I have also watched a lot of videos on the game, pro players play, and smoke and flash tutorials. I really like this game and will continue to play it. Unless Valve (The owners of CS:GO) make a new installment.

School Science Project

Today, Mr. Grey assigned my class a project for each group. Earlier a few weeks ago we researched on different ways of generating electricity. Each table group researched a different way of generating electricity. My group was to research on solar generating plants. The whole group researched a bunch of information and put it onto a piece of chart paper and into a concept map in a Google app called Mindomo.

A few days after that, Mr. Grey assigned us to type out an individual essay. The essay was on our knowledge of what benefits can be obtained using the particular way of generating electricity and the downsides of using that way of generating electricity. Since I did a lot of research with the group, I already had some information on the topic. I still had to research a little bit more on solar generating plants, but I ended up with a good amount of information on my essay.

Now Mr. Grey has assigned us our current project for this unit. The assignment was to either work together as the whole group, work alone, or split the group into pairs. My group decided to split into pairs for the project. I am working with my friend Jeffery who also did a lot of research on the project so I know he will also be able to contribute. The project is to create an accurate model of what the certain way to generate electricity would be like. According to Mr. Grey, he would like it to be functional but also safe because some ways of generating electricity involve burning of materials or other things.

We have just started on this project and are planning to meet up sometime to start the project over the weekend and do some things like planning out how we are going to do things.

Overall March Break

This week was the first week after March Break, so I am going to write this blog about what I did over the March Break. The first few days of March Break I was just relaxing and playing video games on the computer and having fun.

Later on, in the week I went to one of my friend’s birthday party. It was pretty fun since I got to see some of my friends there. After the party, I just talked to my friends a lot for a day or two and then went back to playing a lot of video games.

On the weekend before the end of March Break daddy decided we should go skiing which I did a blog on before. Overall I had a good March Break and had a lot of fun.

Thursday Ski Trip

Yesterday, Jason, Mommy, Daddy, and I went on a ski trip to Mt. St. Louis. We woke up at around 7:30 and had a small breakfast and then we drove for about an hour with our ski equipment to the ski resort.

When we got to the resort we went into the chalet and changed into our ski equipment. Then, we went outside and did a few green trails. Later on, we did a few black diamonds and then went inside for some food. We had some popcorn, milk chocolate covered almonds, and some onion rings. After, Jason and I went skiing alone for a while. We did ten runs and then went back inside. Then we packed up and went to eat lunch.

I had some fun skiing, but I would rather stay home playing video games. The mountain was small compared to some other mountains I’ve been to, so some of the trails were short.
