Tom Graham Arena Complex Skating Trip

On March 10, the grade 7s and 8s went on a skating trip to Tom Graham Arena Complex. This will be the last skating trip the grade 8s will have together.

When I got to school, I notice that around half my class is missing. After the short attendance inside our classes. All the 7 and 8 classes started walking with all our equipment to Tom Graham Arena Complex. We left at around 9:20 and it took us around 10 minutes to get there. Eventually, everyone made it to the arena.

When we arrived, there were some problems before we got on the ice. For example, some of my friends and I had trouble tightening the laces on our skates. None of us had the strength to make the skates really tight. Eventually, Madame Martin had to help us tighten the skates. The skate still wobbled but it was good enough. The first few laps around the rink were fine. I enjoyed chatting with my friends and I saw a few races from people who actually knew how to skate well.

By 10:30 my leg started to ache. I had to take periodic breaks from the arena. From what I saw, my friends were also having some problems as well. By 11 o’clock, it felt like the people on the rink and the people on the benches were switching out every 10 minutes. Even though people were getting off the ice every 10 minutes, we still managed to enjoy a game of tag. I also saw Doris, who is doing better since the last time she skated.

Overall, my time at the Tom Graham Arena Complex was a painful but fun experience. I really enjoyed the games we manage to play on the ice. However, I did not like the experience of having my legs hurting for over an hour. Even with all the ups and downs, I enjoyed my last skating trip at Redstone P.S.

Genius Hour Plan March 4-May 1

This week I will make a plan of the steps I will need to follow from March 4 to May 1.

From March 5 to March 10 I would like to watch multiple dismantling videos. This will make sure I know what I’m doing and help me stay safe from anything dangerous inside the TV. From March 10 to March 12 I would like to ask my family to help me film and possibly disassemble the TV if I can’t do it myself.

From March 13 to 16 I would like to start disassembling the TV. I actually don’t think it will take me four whole days to disassemble the TV. It might take me around two days to completely disassemble the TV not including if I miss any of the days. So the extra two days are just in case if something comes up or if I need more time. Also, the reason why I am doing this during Monday through Thursday is because it will be March break and this is a good opportunity to work on my project.

From March 20 to March 24 I would like to gather some pictures of parts from different times to make a compilation of photos in a slideshow. From March 27 to April 13 I would like to periodically work on my project this includes video editing and take more photos of the parts I have gathered from the TV. Finally, from April 14 to May 1 will include touching up work and fixing up anything I have not completed.

Hopefully, everything goes well. I believe I have given myself enough time to finish this project. Even if I don’t finish some things, I have given myself an ample amount of time of touch up work to hopefully fix any problems. The exact days a touch of work I have is 13 days not including holidays like Good Friday and Easter. Overall I want to do my best in this project and hopefully get a good mark.

Ajax trip

The day was February 18. Earlier that morning Nathan came over to play some games with us since he didn’t want to go to his sisters dance classes. We were having a good time playing different kinds of games like Minecraft and Counter Strike. Around noon mommy came up with the idea to go to Ajax. I was actually fine with the idea of going to Ajax since I knew it was plentiful of new Pokémon to catch. Unlike me, Kalen and Nathan were more hesitant than me. We went anyways, I actually thought we would be sitting near a triangle of PokéStops but apparently not.

When we arrived, we started walking along the lake waterfront. We started on one side of the trail. On our walk to the other side, we encountered many Swinub, Eevee, and many other Pokémon. I also managed to take my Facebook and Instagram profile pictures during our walk. When we reached the end of our trail. We turned back and headed to our car.

While we were in Ajax we had lunch there. The restaurant we went to was “Aunt’s Restaurant” (maybe). The food was great, I really like their pizza the best. After our lunch, we also went to the flea market. We needed to go to the flea market because daddy needed to buy a sound cable for our new speaker system. After all the fun we had in Ajax me finally return home.

I like our trip in Ajax, and I hope we can go there again. Overall I mainly like the trip because I manage to catch some new Pokémon and we went to a great restaurant. This was my thoughts on our trip to Ajax.

7/8 Valentine Dance

A few weeks ago, Mrs. Ciani decided to host a Valentine dance to raise money for the grade 8 graduation. I was actually happy that we would raise money for the grade 8 graduation. However, I did not have high hopes for the Valentine dance.

On Tuesday, February 14 we had our grade 7/8 Valentines dance. As I expected the dance was exactly what I thought it would be. Instead of soft relaxing music, there was hard rock, pop, and other kinds of music. It actually didn’t really matter what kind of music the DJ’s were playing because no one was actually dancing. Instead, there was a bunch of grade 7 students jumping in front of the DJ’s. The DJ’s were the same people who were at our previous school dances, like the Halloween dance.

When my class finally arrived at the gym, the dance had already started. Most of the grade 7 classes had already arrived and there were a bunch of pink and red balloons all over the floor. The first thing I did, was meet up with the rest of my friends. Then we sat next to the back wall. The back wall was the only place that was far enough from the brain rattling music. A few minutes later I realize that some of my classmates were starting a game of cards. I went to go check how did the game was progressing. Eventually, the game stopped because they didn’t have a good light source and the music was too loud.

Near the end of the dance, the DJ’s decided to have a limbo contest in the middle of the gym. I didn’t participate because it was too crowded. Most my friends didn’t participate in the limbo contest either. Eventually, the DJ’s realize that the limbo contest wasn’t a good idea. Instead, they started a conga line which I didn’t join either because I didn’t know one started. After the conga line dismantled, one of my friends told me about it.

In the end, the dance was like every single other dance the school has organized for us. Hopefully next time, the dance will be quieter. I thought the dance was all right. Even though the music was loud, I still got to hang out with my friends. Well, this was my thoughts on Redstone’s first Valentines dance.

The History of TV 1930-1940

Last week, I talked about Filo Farnsworth and his idea for TV. This week I will talk about how TV patent changed owners and the race to release TV to the public.

In the 1930’s, Philo Farnsworth just obtained the first TV patent in the USA after many court battles. A patent is like a goverment lisence that grant you exclusive rights to certain invention. Unfortunately, RCA still has their eyes set on the TV patent. RCA tried pressuring Farnsworth for it. Eventually, RCA paid full price for the TV patent. Now that RCA had Farnsworth out of the picture. They put David Sarnoff in charge to continue advancing the TV technology. Fun fact, David Sarnoff is also the inventor of radio.

However, by 1935 Sarnoff still didn’t come up with a good system to transmit TV signals through the airwaves. Now Sarnoff was also facing competition from his rival William S. Paley from CBS. On July 7, 1936, Sarnoff revealed his first broadcast to the press. Sadly, the demonstration didn’t go so well but Sarnoff didn’t give up.

By the late 1930’s, TV still had many problems. Some examples were the hot TV sets, the expensive TV sets, the lack of actors, and the TV signals weren’t that good. Unlike Sarnoff, Paley and CBS was doing better because of their wealth. CBS had no problem hiring actors but they still had some signal problems. Soon RCA caught up with CBS. Finally, at the world fair in 1939, TV was available to the public.

So, that’s the story of how electronic TV came out of its experimental stage. Next week, I will talk about the problems of manufacturing TVs and RCA’s new rival.

The Early Stages Of Television

Today I will be talking about the beginning of the TV.

The Electronic television made its first appearance on September 3, 1928, to the public. The inventor of the TV was Philo Farnsworth. Philo actually didn’t even come up with the idea. The Idea for TV came from a German man named, Paul Julius Gottlieb Nipkow. Paul came up with the idea in 1884 and experiments started in 1922. The idea was, there was a disk with holes in it. The holes would scan an image and produce an image. Those kinds of TV would come to be known as the Mechanical TV because of the spinning disk.

Over the years, with advancement in electronics, Mechanical TV got replaced with the electronic TV. Philo came up with the idea of the electronic TV in high school. Basically, the idea for the electronic TV was that a cathode ray tube would fire electrons into an image row by row. The electrons would be sent through a cable, and the electrons would be fired against a screen, and project an image on the other side of the screen. The images on the screen assembled into fluid motion because it was happening very fast. However, when Philo finished his prototype his rival Vladimir Zworykint also finish his prototype. This eventually led to a court fight for the tv rights. The deciding piece of evidence was a photo of Philo’s first concept idea he drew in school. Soon the first TVs would soon be massed produced in the 1900’s.

Next, I will talk about the problems with mass producing the TV, and the innovation of colour TV in my next blog.

Transitioning to High School

It is 2017 and very soon I will make the big transition to high school. A big part of high school is the courses and in this blog, I will talk about the courses I will take.

For math, I definitely will take Academic math. I came to this decision because of my parents and the fact I would like to go to a university. Academic math will be more fast pace and you need to be more independent than the Applied math. However according to what one of my friends, he said Academic and Applied math are the same? either way, I’m going to take Academic math.

For language, I’m also going to take the Academic course. I decided this because my parents wanted me too and I want to get into university. I actually didn’t have much background knowledge of Academic language so I did some digging. After I read this article from peopleforeducation.ca it makes me want to take Academic even more. Turns out A provincial study showed that only 21% of students who took applied courses in grade 9 went on to college after graduating. I got this fact at peopleforeducation.ca by the way. So I’m definitely going to take Academic for this course.

For all the other courses I probably will also take Academic for them as well. The subjects are science, geography, physical education, and french. This only leaves me with the choice of my Electives. In grade 9 I only get to choose two Electives. The Electives I decided on were the Instrumental band and Exploring computer technology. The reason I chose the Instrumental band, was because I already had a musical background and by grade 12 I would have 4 extra credit. I was also told that there wouldn’t be much homework either. The reason I chose Exploring computer technology was because I was always interested in technology. I was actually deciding between Exploring family study and Exploring computer technology. In the end, I chose Exploring computer technology.

So that was my thoughts on what courses I want to choose, my background knowledge, and thoughts of the courses. I hoped this informed you what courses I would like to take.

Should You Get The New G.SKILL Ripjaws km780 RGB Keyboard

The past week I received my new G.SKILL keyboard and since then I had ample time to use this new keyboard. So here are my thoughts on the new G.SKILL Ripjaws KM780.

The reason I got a new keyboard in the first place was because my old keyboard was an Apple keyboard. Whenever I played FPS games, using the Apple keyboard felt weird to me. The new G.SKILL keyboard feels much better. Some feature my new keyboard has my old keyboard doesn’t have are brown cherry MX switches, RGB lighting, six customizable macro switches, a clip that holds on to wires to reduce wire slack and a very interesting sound scroll wheel.

Although this keyboard is amazing there are still some flaws, since this is G.SKILL’s first attempt at a keyboard. For example, the control software that controls the keys and RGB lighting is confusing and hard to use. I had to watch multiple videos just to grasp the RGB lighting control. I think G.SKILL can improve this software by adding confirmation pop-ups, multiple presets, and automatically apply new lighting setups.

Overall the new keyboard is great and I don’t see anything that bad about the keyboard besides the software. In the future, I hope to expand my experience with the keyboard and master the confusing software.

Which Is The Best Sushi Resterant

I recently went to Sushi Aoy and I had a thought, which of the three sushi restaurants I go to is the best. Beside Sushi Aoy, the two other restaurants are IPad Sushi and Ichiban Sushi Richmond hill.

The place we go to the most is IPad sushi since it is the closest to our house and in my opinion, that’s a good thing. Also if I really wanted to, I could walk there. Some of the pros in my opinion are, it’s close, foods decent, and it’s all you can eat. Some of the negatives are the foods is not the best quality and the place sometimes gets crowded. Overall I probably like this one the most.

The second place is Ichiban Sushi Richmond hill and the reason we go here is because daddy prefers Ichiban over IPad Sushi. The reason for that is because Ichiban has better quality sushi than IPad Sushi. Some other pros are that it not too far and they has a good menu. Some negatives are its a bit small compared to IPad Sushi and Sushi Aoy. Overall the place was alright, and we do go every now and again.

The third and final place is Sushi Aoy. I’ve only been there once but it seems their menu is pretty good. Some other good things about Shushi Aoy is its good interior and their food should be better quality than IPad Sushi. Overall it’s decent but I haven’t been there enough to place a score on it yet.

In the end, that was my opinions and thoughts of the different sushi restaurants I go to.

Family Gathering Dinner

On December 26 we went to a Chinese restaurant in Montreal. The meal was huge and I think everyone had a great night. It started around 5 pm, where Daddy drove Kalen, Mommy, some other uncles, other aunts, and I. The drive was long, about 45 min just to get to the restaurant. I even manage to take a nap on our way there. The reason it took so long was due to the freezing rain and slippery ice on the road.

When we finally arrived the restaurant, I went to go sit in a seat. After a few more minutes everyone arrived. I ended up sitting at the table in the corner. Kalen, Daddy, Mommy, Uncle Duge, Aunty Linda, Aunty Julie, and Uncle Joy also sat at the table. At the beginning of the meal, I had a lot of pop. For example Coka and Sprite so I didn’t eat as much amazing food as I wanted. Half way through Daddy made a speech thanking the elderly. Apparently, this meal was Daddy’s generation showing thanks to my grandparent’s generation. Usually, my grandparent’s generation pays. This time my dad’s generation pays. We also had this small bun with some kinda paste in it because it was someone’s birthday.

Overall, I enjoyed the meal and it was a lot of fun going out to eat with the family.
